Man on the run after killing ex-girlfriend
Police in the Kavango East Region have issued an appeal for public assistance in tracing the whereabouts of Ngonga Soares Siwombe (28), who is suspected of murdering his ex-girlfriend after a heated argument on Thursday in Rundu.
Siwombe fled shortly after allegedly killing the mother of his child.
Police acting regional commander, Deputy Commissioner Eino Nambahu, confirmed the incident, which occurred around 20:00 at Rundu’s Kehemu location.
The deceased was identified as Theresia Siwombe (21), a grade 11 pupil at Sarasungu Secondary School, whose next of kin were informed.
Troubled relationship
It is alleged that the suspect stabbed the victim with a knife multiple times.
“According to family members, the two were in a relationship that ended. Last week, the family engaged the two over their unstable relationship. The two have a three-year-old son who is said to have been with the parents at the time of the incident," Nambahu said.
"It is further stated that the two argued over a phone, which the suspect took from the victim that evening to scroll through her text inbox. The argument ended in a fight. In the process, the suspect stabbed the victim with a knife and she died on the spot,” he said.
“After having killed her, he took the child along to his house, where he left him alongside the murder weapon before he fled."
Anyone with information on the suspect’s whereabouts is urged to contact Detective Chief Inspector Kakoro at 081 2582338 or to contact a police station nearest them.
Domestic violence crisis
Nambahu stressed that incidents of domestic violence are a thorn in the flesh of every Namibian and crimes of this nature continue to mushroom.
“It is very difficult to detect these kinds of incidents. However, those who find themselves in an abusive or threat-posing situation with their partners should not hesitate to approach the gender-based violence office for further assistance. These offices are countrywide and are open to all genders, not only women, as it is the perception of many,” he added.
