Bar fight turns deadly
News in short
Two women were involved in a bar fight in Otjiwarongo on Monday afternoon, leading to the death of one and the injury and hospitalisation of the other.
The deceased (aged 50) allegedly had a small axe, while the injured suspect (41) wielded a kitchen knife.
Otjozondjupa police spokesperson, Senior Inspector Maureen Mbeha, said the fight took place at Flamingo Bar in the DRC informal settlement shortly before 16:00.
It is alleged that the women had an intense argument before they started fighting. The cause of the argument has yet to be established, she said.
The deceased has been identified as Teresa Ames.
She sustained multiple stab wounds and succumbed to her injuries at the scene, while the suspect sustained an open wound to her head, a swollen eye and a deep cut to her left arm.
The 41-year-old suspect is currently receiving treatment at the Otjiwarongo District Hospital under police guard, and is reportedly in stable condition. She is expected to appear in court as soon as she’s discharged.
