Muinjo appointed NBC director general

Veteran journalist Menesia Muinjo has been appointed director general of the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC), effective 1 April 2026.

The announcement was made by the broadcaster’s board on Friday, confirming that Muinjo will take over from outgoing director general Stanley Similo on a five-year contract.

NBC board chairperson Lazarus Jacobs said the appointment followed consultations with the information minister and reflected strong confidence in Muinjo’s leadership.

“The board expresses its full confidence in Ms Muinjo’s leadership capabilities, strategic insight and extensive industry experience,” Jacobs said.

He added that her appointment is expected to strengthen the broadcaster’s ability to deliver on its strategic objectives and public mandate.

Veteran insider

A career NBC insider, Muinjo currently serves as chief of news and programming — a role she has held since 2014.

She began her career at the corporation as a reporter and news anchor, later rising through the ranks to hold several senior positions, including head of commercial services.

Her experience spans newsroom leadership, content development, institutional management and stakeholder engagement.

The board said Muinjo’s leadership will be critical as NBC navigates a rapidly evolving media landscape, particularly in areas such as digital transformation.

She is also expected to focus on improving operational efficiency, boosting revenue generation and expanding audience engagement across multiple platforms.

NBC said it remains committed to its mandate to inform, educate and entertain, while promoting national development, social cohesion and access to information.
