Green money for Namibia
The United Nations’ Green Climate Fund (GCF) has approved the disbursement of more than N$900 million to promote green hydrogen production, downstream derivatives such as green ammonia and green methanol, and the decarbonisation of hard-to-abate industries in Namibia.
The funding was approved at the GCF's 46th Board meeting in Songdo, Korea, held from 26 to 29 October 2026. The board decided that US$56 million will be allocated to SDG Namibia One, comprising US$15 million for its Development Tranche and US$41 million for its Construction Equity Tranche. The Development Tranche finances early-stage project development, while the Construction Equity Tranche provides equity capital to support projects through construction. At the current exchange rate, this entails a liquidity injection amounting to about N$931 280 000 into Namibia’s green industrial development.
