What’s in theatres and on TV in March

March delivers blockbusters, family hits, and exciting new TV series
January and February had a few good films, but I think cinemas will finally start gaining real momentum in March.

March is often seen as the start of the blockbuster season, which is why some of the year’s biggest films are released during the month.

There aren’t only great movies coming out in March, but also a few excellent TV series making their debut this month.

I searched far and wide so I can tell you what to look forward to.

This list is not in chronological order but rather based on what I think are the biggest releases and what I believe most people will watch.

I also think it makes sense to start with a film I’m really looking forward to, Project Hail Mary.

Project Hail Mary

Ryan Gosling stars in the lead role, which already makes me very excited. The film is based on a novel by Andy Weir. Gosling plays a science teacher, Ryland Grace, who wakes up on a spaceship suffering from memory loss. As his memory slowly returns, he realises that he must solve the mystery behind a strange substance that is causing the sun to die. It looks like the perfect science fiction film to kick off the year. It will be in theatres on 20 March.

Hoppers

I’ve already watched it, and all I can say is that it’s going to make many children and families very happy. It feels fresh but also a little familiar. Piper Curda plays Mabel, a young girl who uses new technology to uncover secrets of the animal kingdom far beyond anything she could have imagined. It will be briefly in theatres this weekend and will officially be released on 6 March.

Ready or Not: Here I Come

This horror franchise is finally expanding, and I’m very excited to see what they do next. Samara Weaving returns as Grace, alongside Kathryn Newton as her sister. Grace realises she has reached the next level of the nightmare game, and once again she must try to survive. It will be in theatres on 20 March.

One Piece Season 2

One Piece is probably the biggest series returning this March. The Straw Hat Pirates take on new adventures this season as they encounter both new and old enemies. Netflix has a massive hit on its hands with this series, and the fact that it was filmed in Cape Town makes it even more special. I’ve also been invited to attend the Cape Town premiere, which takes place on 8 March. The series will launch on Netflix on 10 March.

Invincible Season 4

Mark Grayson and the other heroes from the Invincible universe return on 18 March. It’s one of the best adult animated series and possibly even the best superhero show currently on TV. I’m just glad it didn’t take Amazon years to bring us this new season.

Ted Season 2

I know Ted isn’t for everyone, and please don’t let your kids watch it. I’m a fan of Seth MacFarlane, and I think the Ted TV series is the best thing he’s done in years. It will be fun to see what Ted and John get up to next. The series will be available on Showmax on 18 March.
