Ms Gideon secures historic Sony Music Africa contract
Rising singing sensation Ms Gideon has become the first Namibian to sign with Sony Music Africa.
The Namibian-born artist, Panduleni Gideon, who performs as Ms Gideon, is expected to expand her reach across the continent following the deal, which was facilitated by ERA Music Group.
The label said it was immediately drawn to Gideon’s emotional depth and distinctive storytelling.
In a telephonic interview, ERA Music Group told tjil that Gideon stands out because of her authenticity and emotional range.
“From the moment we met her, it was clear that she has a distinct voice and a strong sense of identity. Her music feels honest and globally relevant,” the label said. “While she remains rooted in her Namibian heritage, she represents a new wave of African artists who are proudly local but globally competitive.”
ERA was instrumental in connecting Gideon to Sony Music Africa, which is bound to propel her onto the global stage.
“Our role is to provide the infrastructure, expertise and network to amplify her vision,” ERA explained. “This includes strategic release planning, international distribution, cross-border collaborations, digital marketing campaigns and positioning her on major streaming platforms across Africa and globally.”
Proudly Namibian
In a telephonic interview with tjil, Gideon described the deal as both a dream realised and a responsibility.
“Music has always been a part of who I am. Growing up in Namibia, I was inspired by the richness of our culture and storytelling,” she said.
“Being discovered by ERA, attending the writing camp in Johannesburg, and then being introduced to Sony, it all felt like everything aligned at the right time. To become the first Namibian artist to sign with Sony Music Africa is something I don’t take lightly. It’s a blessing and a responsibility, and I’m so proud to represent home on this level," she added.
The singer also shared insight into her creative process and what fans can expect from her upcoming work.
“A lot of my ideas start with emotion, something I’ve experienced or observed. From there, I build melodies and lyrics that feel honest and true to me,” she said.
“Under Sony Music Africa, I’ll continue creating music that reflects my identity, but with bigger production, more collaborations and a wider reach. I’m excited to explore sounds that connect Africa to the world while still keeping my authentic Namibian essence.”
Inspiring step
ERA Music Group highlighted that their new partnership with Gideon is also about inspiring the next generation of artists.
"Africa is full of extraordinary talent, and we are committed to discovering and nurturing artists from all corners of the continent,” the label said.
“We hope this inspires more investment into local scenes and encourages young artists to believe in the global potential of their sound. Through partnerships like this, we aim to continue building bridges between local creativity and global platforms.”
Gideon added that she intends to stay grounded and focused on growth.
“We already have music ready to go, and I’m constantly creating new material,” she said. “This next chapter is about releasing powerful music, collaborating with incredible artists and producers, and building meaningful connections with listeners across Africa and beyond. No matter how far this journey takes me, home will always be the most important part of my story.”
