Kwaito Lager tells his story with release of long-awaited album
Zambezi-based musician Kwaito Lager, real name Given Chilinda, is preparing to release his long-awaited album, ‘Writing My Story’, on 2 July.
Speaking to tjil recently, Chilinda explained that the album title is deeply rooted in his personal experiences. "The title comes from my personal journey. Every challenge, lesson and victory has shaped who I am today."
He said the album carries a message of hope and self-belief. "Through this album, I want listeners to understand that their stories matter too and that, no matter where they come from, they have the power to write their own future," he said.
Chilinda said one of the biggest hurdles was staying focused and believing in his vision when things became difficult. "The defining moments came when I realised that every setback was adding another chapter to my story and giving me more to share through my music," he said.
Time to shine
Delphina Muleke, artist manager at Kozani Zani Entertainment, spoke to tjil about the upcoming release.
Muleke, who oversees artist development, branding and career growth at the label, said the decision to sign Kwaito Lager was due to his dedication and consistency.
"Kwaito Lager has spent more than 10 years building his career independently. We saw his talent, consistency and determination and felt it was the right time to help take his career to the next level," she said.
Muleke added that the label has played an important role in shaping the album's rollout and promotional campaign. "We've supported the project through branding and marketing. Fans can expect exciting content, media appearances and a strong promotional campaign leading up to the release and beyond," she said.
As the release date approaches, Chilinda hopes the album will inspire listeners to keep believing in themselves regardless of their circumstances.
"To everyone who has supported me, thank you for being part of this journey. On 2 July, I'm not just releasing music – I'm sharing my story, and I hope it becomes part of yours too”.
