Gobabis to host Miss Namibia, Miss Teen Namibia

Staff Report

The Miss Namibia Organisation, powered by the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC), has announced that the prestigious national pageants will take place in Gobabis.

The official launch was held on 16 February at the Gobabis governor's office, followed by a stakeholder engagement with the local business community at Die Dam Resort.

The crowning ceremonies are scheduled for 31 July and 1 August at the same venue.

NBC director general Stanley Benjamin Similo underscored the broadcaster’s commitment to extending national platforms beyond the capital.

He said hosting the event in Omaheke reflects ongoing efforts to ensure development and opportunity reach all regions of Namibia, not only Windhoek. He also highlighted Gobabis’ rich and diverse cultural heritage as a fitting backdrop for the national spectacle.

NBC board chairperson Lazarus Jacobs encouraged the business community in the region to capitalise on the opportunities presented by the pageants.

He reiterated that the role of the national broadcaster is to shine a spotlight on the entire country and noted that the Miss Namibia Organisation ultimately belongs to the Namibian people. Jacobs further announced that the pageant will henceforth be managed under NBC's commercial department.

Regional honour

Delivering the keynote address, Omaheke governor Pijoo Nganate described the decision as a major honour for the region. He said hosting the pageants would offer an opportunity to showcase Omaheke’s potential to the rest of the country and uplift the spirit of residents.

Gobabis mayor Elwin Gariseb welcomed the announcement, saying the event would bring national attention to the town, stimulate community enthusiasm, and create economic and cultural opportunities.

NBC acting head of public relations, marketing and Miss Namibia national director Beaulah Boois-Beukes, accompanied by reigning Miss Namibia 2025 Johanna Swartbooi, thanked the governor, the region, sponsors and partners for their continued support. Boois-Beukes also announced new additions to this year’s programme, including a national costume competition and a “design the crown” competition, both aimed at expanding public participation and strengthening national involvement.

Speakers at the launch praised the preparedness of Gobabis and the wider Omaheke Region, citing strong collaboration with the creative industry, rich cultural diversity and renowned hospitality. The pageants are expected to boost tourism, empower young women, showcase regional talent and celebrate Namibia’s unity and national pride.
