The upcoming web series 'Eros Academy Secrets', set to premiere on 17 July, is generating excitement as one of Namibia's most anticipated new web series. Directed by Elisabeth Hamukwaya, the production follows a talented young cast in a story filled with drama, mystery and the complexities of student life.

Speaking to tjil, Hamukwaya said the opportunity to direct the series came after writer and producer Tekla Nakale shared the story with her. "I was so honoured that I was the one chosen to direct it," she said.

The director said the series "explores the realities, pressures, dreams and challenges that many young Namibians face but rarely see reflected on screen”.

Audiences can expect a compelling mix of drama, suspense and relatable characters when the pilot episode premieres.

"It talks about the challenges young people face and the drive and the passion they carry. As a young creative myself, I connected with the story and wanted to help bring it to life. I believe ‘Eros Academy Secrets’ will inspire many young people. It gives a voice to young people in a fun and thrilling way," Hamukwaya said.

She confirmed that the pilot episode will premiere on the Tukaleni Visuals YouTube channel on 17 July and encouraged audiences to subscribe so they don't miss the release or future updates. "For now, we will be releasing the pilot episode as a standalone proof-of-concept, introducing audiences to the world, characters and themes of 'Eros Academy Secrets’," she explained.

New Namibian horizons

Tjil also spoke to members of the cast about their experiences working on the production.

Actress Vanessa Shipale, who stars in the series, said one of the biggest challenges she faced was balancing her responsibilities while preparing for her role. "The main hurdle I faced was just the stress of balancing everything, learning the dialogue and helping with some costume design," she shared.

Despite the challenges, Shipale described the experience as rewarding, adding that she believes the series has the potential to make a meaningful impact on viewers. "I know this series will be very impactful to someone, and that means a lot to me," she said.

Another cast member, Rachel Ndahambelela Ndinelao Simon, who portrays Susan Mweeti, said she joined the project after being approached by Nakale. "I came across this project when the writer and producer approached me on a random Wednesday morning. I fell in love with the story and felt deeply privileged and honoured to help bring this project to life," she said.

Reflecting on the production process, Hamukwaya praised the young cast for their enthusiasm and dedication. "It was a really fun experience working with such a talented young cast. For some of them, it was their first time being on a film set, but they were eager to learn and very committed to their roles," she said.

The production team and cast hope the series will spark conversations and inspire young people across the country while showcasing characters with authentic Namibian accents and stories that leave viewers wanting more.
