Drag night Namibia brings Motown glam to the stage
Drag Night Namibia is bringing a night of retro glam, Motown classics and iconic drag performances to the Franco-Namibian Cultural Centre (FNCC) this Saturday, with the evening themed “Drag Me to Motown".
The show will feature a line-up of local performers delivering retro-inspired acts filled with sequins, glamour and classic Motown sounds. Organisers say the event aims to create a space where entertainment meets inclusion, while giving performers the opportunity to showcase their talent through music, fashion and storytelling.
Organiser Lize Ehlers says the performers for the March show were carefully selected from the ‘Just Like You’ campaign by Positive Vibes, ensuring the cast represents both strong artistry and a shared message of empowerment.
“Self-expression is key in our plight as creative entrepreneurs," she said.
"This is literally a 'change and save a life' platform,” she explained, adding that the showcase aims to demonstrate that inclusion is vital for a thriving community and nation.
Among the performers lighting up the stage is drag persona Atlantis, who says the Motown theme resonates with the spirit of community and resilience. For Atlantis, performing Motown-inspired numbers is about tapping into “the joy of being brought together through music and our shared experiences as a community".
Audiences can expect vibrant costumes featuring sequins, fringe and glitter, along with performances designed to get the crowd dancing and singing along, she added.
Organisers say the Motown edition is just one of several themed drag nights planned throughout the year, with upcoming shows continuing to celebrate creativity, storytelling and unapologetic expression on stage.
