NCA beef arrives in Ghana
Meatco’s first consignment of Namibian beef from the northern communal areas (NCAs) arrived at the Tema port in Accra, Ghana, last week.
According to the company, it shipped 14 tonnes of beef from the NCAs to Ghana and further to West Africa.
International relations ministry executive director Penda Naanda said it is continuing to enhance its economic diplomacy and creating market access for Namibian products.
According to him, the meat is being imported by Abanga Farms and Food Systems, a Ghanaian company that has signed a contract with Meatco as a sole distributor.
This is the first time Namibian beef has entered that market.
The historic event last Thursday was attended by several Ghanaian senior ministry officials, members of parliament, associations and captains of industry. Meatco’s sales manager was also in attendance.
Significant boost
“This achievement is a significant boost for bilateral trade between Namibia and Ghana and a contribution to the enhancement of intra-African trade,” Naanda said.
Meatco CEO Mwilima Mushokabanji explained that through the commodity-based trade protocol approach, the company has managed to produce certified beef products and marketed it to Ghanaian markets.
He said Ghanaian markets are still being developed and are expected to grow further.
