AMTA ACCUSED OF LATE PAYMENTS TO FARMERS: Farmers who sold their crops to the Agronomic Marketing and Trade Agency (Amta) in August say they are still waiting for payment.

The alleged delayed payments were raised in parliament, where agriculture minister Inge Zaamwani was asked to clarify when the outstanding amounts would be settled.

Concerns were also raised about farmers who remain on waiting lists to deliver their crops to Amta.

“How long are these farmers expected to wait before they can sell their produce, and what measures are being taken to accommodate them?” National Democratic Party (NDP) president Martin Lukato asked.

Lukato also highlighted the challenges faced by mahangu farmers who reportedly have produce available for sale but continue to struggle to access markets through Amta.

“What measures are being taken to ensure that these farmers have access to available markets and receive fair and timely payment?” he asked.
