SHORT NEWS: Employment equity hearings kick off
Rauna Haufika, deputy director and deputy chairperson of the Employment Equity Commission, has emphasised the importance of employer compliance with Namibia’s affirmative action and employment equity legislation as review panel hearings commenced this morning at the National Council. The hearings focus on employers that have failed to meet statutory requirements under the Affirmative Action (Employment) Act and related regulations. Several entities have been summoned to appear before the commission to account for shortcomings identified in their employment equity and affirmative action reports. The review panel hearings are scheduled to continue throughout the morning and into tomorrow, with the commission seeking to ensure that employers address deficiencies and take corrective action to promote equitable representation in the workplace. The Employment Equity Commission has reiterated that the review panel process is a key accountability mechanism aimed at strengthening compliance and advancing inclusive employment practices across both the public and private sectors.
