Namibian international and Jwaneng Galaxy FC player Marcel Papama hopes that more Namibians can be recruited in the Botswana Premier League.
The former Civics and African Stars player joined the league giants in February after leaving Namibia for greener pastures when football in the country came to a standstill.
He is among at least four Namibians plying their trade in the league, which plays host to top football clubs.
“At this moment, one can just hope that more of those players who are doing nothing back home can get a chance to come play here.
It is a beautiful country and the people are very well organised at this clubs.
“The fact that many of the players back home do not have an opportunity to play football is sad,” he said.
“That is why I just hope that more of them can make an attempt to get in contact with agents or clubs here,” Papama said.
He has appeared several times for his club, and featured in the Confederation of African Football champion’s league.
Hopes to impress
The footballer said he hopes to play a bigger role in the success of the club that has been doing well overall.
“When you are at a club as a player, the first thing you want to do is impress the coaches in order for you to become a regular.
“The other thing that you want as a player is to win titles with the club and my wishes are no different from that.
“I came here to win and that is why I play each match for this club as if it was a cup final,” Papama said. The Namibian maintains that commitment on and off the field is crucial when playing football at a high level.
“My word to my fellow players back at home is that they must just not give up yet but stay committed as there could be light at the end of the tunnel.”
