Young stars reap rewards

After months of battling it out on the court and accumulating points, young tennis players from across the country, who have proven themselves to be the best in the game, converged over the weekend at the Trustco NTA Junior Masters Tournament 2022.

The President of the Namibian Tennis Association (NTA), Samson Kaulinge, said: "I’m impressed with the standard of tennis this year. Very young tennis players are putting up very good performances, and I’m happy from the NTA's side. The standard is going up. I’m also happy to see children from the coast and children from Okahandja doing quite well in this tournament. It’s not only tennis players from Windhoek who are competing."



Best of the best

The Trustco NTA Junior Masters Tournament was the final junior tournament of the year. The tournament comprises of five categories, which include boys and girls under-10, 12, 14, 16 and 18. In each category, eight boys and eight girls battled it out on the court.

In the boys u-18, George Louw took first place, Sarel Janse van Rensburg took second, and Daniel Jauss took third place.

While for the girls, u-18, Larushka Kruger continued with her good form as she took first place and Menorah van Wyk took second place.

Tournament director Jandre Bezuidenhout said: "Tennis in Namibia is growing at a good rate and the development programmes that are being launched around Namibia will just help us to discover more tennis players."
