PDM congress only set for 2024
Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) secretary-general (SG) Manual Ngaringombe says the party’s wings must first finalise their own symposiums before the mother body convenes its congress, which has been slated for early 2024.
He made the remarks at the launch of the party’s #GiveUsAChance campaign.
The various wings that must conclude their congresses include the youth league - which did not conclude its congress in December 2021, the women’s league and the elder’s council, he said.
“If the time has come for our congress, we shall have an open, free and fair elections on all these congresses.”
Candidates vying for positions would also be given ample time to campaign, Ngaringombe promised.
“We will open times for campaigns. When these times come, people will go out and campaign, even for the national elections, not only the SG and current leadership will campaign.”
The PDM last held a congress in November 2017, following its rebranding from the then Democratic Turnhalle Alliance.

The launch of the campaign, Ngaringombe said, was being done in line with inclusivity and a call to Namibians to help the party take over from the Swapo Party, which had been in power since independence.
“The campaign is aimed at mobilising the electorate behind the PDM as the only alternative armed with the political dexterity and maturity to take over the instruments of power from the Swapo government in the 2024 presidential and National Assembly elections,” he said.
“Any political party that is serious about taking over the instruments of power from Swapo after the 2024 elections must have a people-centered campaign, and that is exactly what the #GiveUsAChance campaign is premised upon,” he added.
Ngaringombe was confident the campaign towards the 2024 elections would be a resounding success.
