Zinc surges to 10-year peak
Zinc hit another 10-year high yesterday as base metals rallied across the board on the back of a faltering US dollar, with expectations that the European Central Bank may start trimming its stimulus programme lifting the euro to a three-year peak. At 1030 GMT, three-month zinc on the London Metal Exchange was up 1.5% at US$3 435.50 a tonne, having earlier touched a peak of US$3 440 a tonne, its highest since August 2007. According to the latest figures of the Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA), Namibia earned N$1.152 billion from zinc exports in the first six months of 2017, up about 12% from the same half-year in 2016.
