The 2020 Media Camp organised by Namibia Media Holdings (NMH) along with its stakeholders, gave an opportunity to 33 schools with a total of 63 learners across the country to experience the life of journalism. The learners partook in an in depth media training at Out of Nature Country Lodge, from 7 to until 9 February.
Learners went through the hands of many journalists from NMH, who spoke to them about the different types of media platforms.
According to Octavia Tsibes, the head of the zone and youth said every year there is a different team that radiates different ideas.
"It’s a more woke team, they are eager to learn and we could see even though I had to say behave a couple of times they were still able to give in their assignments on time,”
Tsibes added this year they did a lot of different things from all the other Media Camps and one thing that stood up for her in this Media Camp is that they did not put in so much effort to manage time ,but the learners were managing time for them.
She further said for the next media camp she would like it to be more visual, more interactive and more practical, she wants them to bring in different elements that make a newspaper and bring in marketing and the components of what makes a journalist. “Now you understand a story, how to write a story, now you understand how to put a story into the paper, how it gets designed and as well as how the clients get the newspaper.
Iyaloo Nghandi a learner from Gabriel Taapopi who also attended the Media camp shared her experience with North Side Signal.
“I had an amazing time, the whole experience was life changing plus I made friends who I plan to keep in touch with. It will be great if they period of the media camp increases,” she said.
