Yes, glamour matters
So the night of glitz and glamour has arrived and I’m so excited to see who’s gonna rock up with what designer outfit, and who does whose makeup. Yes, I am talking about the NAMA’s blue carpet events! Usually we get a lot of people complaining that our artists and socialites don’t know how to style themselves and many are dying to find out who’s wearing what. In order for people not to rock up wearing shades even if their futures are so bright, tjil spoke to some designers and stylists so anybody showing up the NAMAs this year will know what’s trending and what is a red light on the biggest Namibian entertainment carpet event.
Designer Melisa Poulton says what’s currently trending would definitely be pleats, specifically micro pleats. She also suggests people go for sequence and sparkly but only for those who go for burgundy and green. “For the ladies, ruffles are also in as well as off-the-shoulder dresses and dresses with side slits.” She suggests that NAMA attendees try to keep it as elegant as possible. “Go for your flowy dresses, just don’t overdo your designs and please, choose a colour that matches your skin tone.” Melisa added she is dressing a few people but she wants to keep it a secret for now. “I would like for everyone to see on NAMA night only,” said the fashionista.
Stylist Reinhard Mahalie urges everyone to be edgy and different as fashion and style are forever changing. He recommends three major things that everyone should follow.”People’s garments are indeed a perfect fit, the perfect choice of fabric and if it is designer made, perfect execution. Then you will look good. It’s autumn so the colours people should go for are your blacks and browns. For colour and skin tone: If you feel that a certain colour complements your skin tone then wear that colour. Photographs will be taken so make sure that the colour you choose makes your skin pop. I feel a lot of people will go for black but yeah, we will see.” Reinhard is styling two celebrities this year and one of them is Gazza. “People must know that I am not a fashion designer but rather a fashion stylist. So I’m not dressing him but I will do the styling of his final look. I have to make sure that when he steps out he looks dapper. I will not mention the other artist just yet. We will see at the blue carpet as I can’t reveal it right now but it’s pretty exciting!”
Designer Ingo advices artists to seek some styling advice from stylists as it’s a glamour event. He however recommends dark colours to be worn on the two nights. “Earth tones, golds and silver. We are approaching winter and that also matters and should be considered.” Ingo will be dressing two nominated artists who will also be performing. “The awards show is a massive opportunity to promote oneself whatever professional it is. You have to make a statement.” The artists that Ingo will be dressing are also being kept under wraps so make sure you are glued to your screens on Friday and Saturday night.
