WIS hosts sport day

Windhoek International School (WIS) held their sports day on 4 October. The schools hosts a sports day each term before they have school break.

The Windhoek Internation School hosts their sports days to connect and united all the learners from different age groups. This year the sport of the year was touch rugby.

All learners were allocated a team to represent and turned up on the day wearing colours for that team. The learners competed in their house teams - Leopards, Cheetahs, Lions and Caracals. Towards the end of the year the marks of each games played are added together and the winner is announced.

Speaking to The Zone, Zandréa Strauss from the Leopards said sports day always brings out new friendships and they get to bond with each other. She hopes her team will win towards the end of the year as they have good team spirit.

Jessica Kennedy from the Cheetahs said the sports day was fun and she enjoyed it.

“It is the day we as students get to relax from all the books,” she said.

Naomi Dukes from the Lions said the term's sport day is a good idea because she gets to communicate and cooperate with other learners on her team and learners from the younger and older groups can get to know each other better.

Taboka Takawira from the Caracals said it was an interesting sports day as this was the first time they played touch rugby and it was great seeing the different year levels work together. Takawira is looking forward to the next sport day as she is curious as to what sport they are going to play next year.
