Uuvudhiya murder suspect arrested
The prime suspect in the killing of Uuvudhiya resident Tulipomwene Magano Emili has been arrested after over a week on the run, police have confirmed.
The Oshana Police Chief, Commissioner Ndahnagwapo Kashihakumwa, yesterday told Namibian Sun that the 22-year-old man suspected of killing Emili a fortnight ago was arrested last week Thursday, more than 700 kilometres from where the crime was committed.
Ngimbihafo Hanemweshitya, alias Erasto Fessy, was denied bail when he appeared before the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday on a charge of murder.
Kashihakumwa said Hanemweshitya was arrested in Windhoek following several tip-offs from members of the public and was immediately transported to the Oshakati prison pending investigations.
Hanemweshitya is accused of stabbing Emili once in the chest with a knife during an altercation outside her house at Uuvudhiya in the Oshana Region.
A man who was questioned after he claimed to have witnessed the incident claimed that he had pulled Emili off her boyfriend after he found them in a tussle.
Emili allegedly ran into her house, only for an unknown man to walk out of the house moments later to say that Emili had a stab wound.
“He [Hanemweshitya] claims he was fighting with the guy he found with his girlfriend. He says he stabbed the guy and not his girlfriend,†said Kashihakumwa.
The unknown man who came out of the room on the night of the incident, whom the police suspect was having an intimate relationship with Emili, was later identified as Amutenya Petrus.
Petrus, 22, was arrested after his jacket was found in Emili’s bedroom following her death.
Petrus was initially charged with murder pending investigations and the search for Hanemweshitya, but has since been released.
