‘Unstoppable’ does not come with age
Ronel Kaaijk worked her way up to being a credit administrative assistant at Pupkewitz Megabuild. This is only the beginning of the greatness she wants to bring to the organisation.

Ronel Kaaijk was born and raised in the capital of Namibia, Windhoek. She completed matric at Windhoek High School. Right out of high school, she started working as a receptionist and thereafter received a promotion to the level of personal assistant to the managing director of the company. She then began to work harder to better her career and made the leap to join Pupkewitz Megabuild. This is where she was selected as the administrative assistant for the credit control and risk department. Finally, she received the opportunity for the credit administrative position, which she accepted.
Kaaijk is the credit administrative assistant at Pupkewitz Megabuild. She works together with clients by analysing and assisting in the establishment of their accounts to help make their business dreams and desires a reality.
Kaaijk says being the youngest in the department she works in has come with great challenges. “I worked resiliently to establish myself as someone who is not only mature enough but qualified to exceed job expectations and work to the best of my abilities and ensure a job well done. Through resilient effort and hard work, I reaped the rewards,” she said.
A typical day in the office for her usually includes interviewing prospective customers while assessing their credit applications for approval. Each day is unique, no one like the other. Work is diverse, challenges are diverse and the clients are as well. However, she strives to do her best to fill her role and to be a constructive part of the Namibian community.
Kaaijk says she enjoys helping others. While there can be similar challenges, each customer sees things differently, and working with them is a unique experience for her. “I take satisfaction knowing I was able to solve the problem, and then experience their gratitude. Furthermore, I love the relationships I have formed with my co-workers, they are special beyond compare,” she said.
She is inspired by her two greatest role models: her mother for relentless devotion to becoming a successful woman in her industry and inspiring those around her; and her supportive manager for never failing guidance and constant encouragement to better herself.
Kaaijk advises young women to define excellence and establish performance expectations with themselves and then focus on achieving those expectations. She added that being clear about what your job is and how you should spend your time will help you weed out the less important from the most important allowing you to strive for success. She aspires to complete a Certificate in Credit Management and advance to work towards the senior credit position furthering her professional career.
One area she focuses on is empathy. “Empathy is something we can only use more of, and it’s nearly impossible to put into practice. Think about it. Can you really put yourself into another person’s headspace? Of course not. The best we can hope for is to try. It’s useful to make a habit of asking where people are coming from, while acknowledging that you can never know their motivations or feelings. All we can do is accept that they are doing the best they can do with what they have, just as they are,” she said.
