Unam security accused of Gazza sabotage
Masses missed out on what was anticipated to be the event to mark the year 2016 due to misunderstandings and poor organisation between the GMP and Unam security. Concertgoers were allegedly told that the show was cancelled on Saturday afternoon when they arrived on the Windhoek campus for the show.
Some upset fans who had come back informed the Namibian Sun that they were told by the security guards that the show was cancelled because the GMP management had not settled their fees. “I was on my way to the airport to pick up international act Dicklas One when I received phone calls from my fans asking why the show was suddenly cancelled. Why would I do that after everything I went through and put in this show?” Gazza asked. He said what happened was unfair and it is a matter that needs to be looked into.
According to GMP they had made payment. “We signed a contract with Unam for the field but Unam also adds a breakage fee on top of the amount which is refundable. By Saturday we had settled the venue fee. We were told that we could only pay the breakage fee as cash after the show,” said GMP.
“By the time the fees were settled in cash the damage was already done with countless fans havingleft. We went into damage control mode via social media to inform the fans that the show was still on,” said GMP.
Simon Namesho, public relations for Unam told Namibian Sun said the fans were told to wait until further developments came about. “Fans that arrived before 18:00 were asked to momentarily wait at the entrance to the university, until a clause in the contract between Unam and the GMP management agent was resolved. The gates to the venue were then opened to the attendees, as soon as the particular clause in question was resolved,” said Namesho.
The event was supposed to start at 16:00 ended up starting officially after 21:00. Gazza got on stage very emotional and fired up by the whole misunderstanding. “You guys missed the f*ck out. Whether I perform for a f*cken full stadium or not I couldn’t imagine the launch of Pumumu to be any better than this,” said Gazza.
He performed for the intimate crowd of around 300, new songs from his album Pumumu alongside local acts including Matongo Family, Oteya, Promise and international artists Dicklas One and Nyanda.
