Two crashes claim six
Four were killed this morning around 10:00 in a crash between a Toyota Corolla and a Hilux bakkie at Ondangwa. The Corolla is said to have travelled from Ongwediva and the crash was head-on. Emergency services had to use the Jaws of Life to extract those in the Corolla. It is not immediately known how many passengers were in the sedan but two children have been taken to hospital for treatment. The details of the deceased are not yet available. The driver of the Hilux was also transported to hospital.
On Monday morning at roughly 01:30, some 30 kilometres north-east of Grootfontein, two children aged two and six died in a crash. The police spokesperson for the Otjozondjupa Region, Warrant Officer Maureen Mbeha said the children were travelling from Henties Bay in the Erongo Region to Rundu in the Kavango East Region with family when their bakkie overturned.
“It is alleged that the 36-year-old male driver lost control over the vehicle and it overturned. The two minor children died instantly,” Mbeha said. Five other occupants in the vehicle, including the driver, sustained slight to serious injuries and were admitted to the Grootfontein State Hospital. A case of culpable homicide has been opened against the driver at the Grootfontein police.
