Team effort sought in Team Namibia logo search

Local products and services lobby group Team Namibia is counting on the Namibian public to help it choose its new logo. The organisation recently had two potential new logos developed by the recently established advertising agency The Jupiter Drawing Room, otherwise known as O&L Advertising. Rather than pick the winning logo itself, Team Namibia is launching a competition that will run until October 12, asking people to choose the best design. The new Team Namibia logo is to feature on packaging, retail outlets, advertising and social media platforms associated with the brand. “Members of Team Namibia believe change comes from taking action, so we want to give young people the opportunity to take action and tap into their sense of national pride,” Team Namibia chairperson Tarah Shaanika said last week. “If we can get the younger generation to believe in Team Namibia and give them the opportunity to vote, they can bring about change through pressure on their parents, their peers and the country”, Shaanika said. Voters can enter the competition via Team Namibia's Facebook page, or by texting either “LOGO A” or “LOGO B” to the number 5001. Prizes up for grabs in the competition include a FNB Namibia bank account with a balance of N$3 000, a shopping voucher from Pick n Pay also worth N$3 000, and a mobile phone to the same value from TN Mobile. “We wanted to create something standout to differentiate Team Namibia within a cluttered landscape through a simple, iconic design that is strongly rooted in the organisation's positioning,” Nicky Schermer, managing director of the Jupiter Drawing Room, said of their work. “Logo A celebrates the shape of Namibia built up in layers representing our famous desert, dunes and contrasting landscapes. In this way, it symbolises building, growth and working together, because without all these parts, Namibia would not be complete,” Schermer said. “On the other hand, Logo B is inspired by our sun, an icon on our flag and a source of light and energy in Namibia. The various dots show the vast group of Team Namibia members and the great energy that is created when they come together. This gives the logo an energetic feel and symbolises movement and optimism towards a bright future,” she added.
