Taking note of the magic of music for 30 years
Established in 1990, musical retail outlet Take Note was founded to establish the performing art of music in Namibia and 30 years later, is still strengthening the existence of musical art.

From classical music to contemporary compositions, and the educational aspect that music entails, Take Note is a trusted outlet which caters for all musical needs. The company acknowledges their clients and generally, Namibian society for playing a major role in their success story. They shared that the interest of their clients remains the most important facet of their business, adding that “it is only through the grace of God and hard work that we have managed 30 years”.
After finding a niche in the Namibian market, Take Note was founded in October 1990 as a musical retail outlet with its own back-up facility. It was opened in 111 Independence Avenue, where it operated until November 2009, when it moved to Bougainvilla complex in Klein Windhoek, its location to date.
“The business opened at a time when the musical trade slowly started to move into the direction of computers and other hi-tech musical equipment and ever since its inception, has grown into a reputable music outlet.”
Run by seven Namibians, the company caters for demand across the country, selling all products relating to music, carrying the belief that “the product is as good as its back up service”. As incidents do happen, the company has had their own workshop for 30 years, where they can service musical equipment.
“A musical retail store in such a small country with such a diverse nation already makes it tricky because of the vast variety of instruments.” The variety along with the various levels of musicians i.e. beginners, intermediate and professional musicians, make for a somewhat difficult stocking scenario, however, their highlights comprise of seeing the musicians develop, as well as meeting incredible musicians from all over the world.
An initial aim of the company was to become a household name in music in the country. “After all these years we are proud to say that if you talk music – we have become the hub for musicians in Namibia.”
Take Note is a family business, formed from the family’s passion for music. They believe that “if you work hard and love what you do and come from the same camp – you understand the challenges of the musician and the business scenario”.
“Our aim was never to see how big we can get – rather to see how we can service the community.” Take Note appreciates the staff that have worked at the establishment over the past 30 years and appreciates that they “do it for the passion and try and live by your art”.
“Keeping a business going for 30 years takes hair on your teeth, very hard work, tenacity and trust in each other to make it work every day.” Trust is an important component which has worked for Take Note over the years, that along with good relationships with suppliers, and others in the chain of business, which include transport companies and banking institutions.
Having saved during the good times, for the bad times is how the company survived Covid-19, which has affected many companies and their operations.
