Swapo chucks out Shimbulu

The Swapo regional coordinator for the Oshana Region, Samuel Nelongo, who previously told Namibian Sun that there was no skilful person at Oshakati to replace Katrina Shimbulu as a councillor, says they will uphold the Swapo Politburo's directive to reverse Shimbulu's reinstatement after she had resigned in October.
He added, however, that Shimbulu's actions during the term when she was illegally occupying office would not be reversed.
These include the nomination of Angelius Iyambo as mayor, the appointment of an acting CEO and the cancellation of an advertisement of the CEO position. The politburo appointed a committee to investigate the controversial reinstatement of Shimbulu, as well as the refusal by Onesmus Shilunga and Gabriel Kamwanka to continue serving as councillors.
Immediate effect
Earlier this week, Swapo secretary-general Sofia Shaningwa communicated the outcome of the investigation to Nelongo.
“The decision of the politburo has to be implemented with immediate effect. We have already informed the next on the list, Angelina Kamwanka, the Oshakati East branch mobiliser, to be sworn in. By this decision, Kamwanka and Shilunga are also to be sworn in as councillors,” Nelongo said.
“As per the directive, the status quo has to remain. This means Iyambo will continue as the mayor while Shilunga will be the chairperson of the management committee.”
On 16 December, Oshakati town councillors Shilunga and Kamwanka boycotted the council's election of political office-bearers in protest against Shimbulu's nomination.
