Strange NPL proposals

Jesse Kauraisa
The Namibia Premier League management committee is playing a cat and mouse game because they are depriving the locals of sponsorship news.

It appears that the new interim management committee members are no different from the previous ones.

The committee announced this month that the league will start on 12 May and therefore clubs must be ready.

This just reminded me about the many articles I have written about the league's starting date.

If there really is a sponsor, it is important for the public to know who they are and how much sponsorship they are providing.

Sometimes we blame the wrong people which can cost them their jobs.

The football fraternity said as soon as former chairman Johnny Doeseb resigns, sponsors will come on-board.

Well, if the sponsor is there let us know and if there is no sponsor, also let us know so we know the fate of the league.

Please refrain from making empty promises because our football is in need of transformation.

I just hope that the “nine and M” will not happen again with the new leadership.

The new leadership must be transparent and also available to answer any questions posed to them.

However, one keeps hearing things like “I am busy please call me later” and as soon as you call later, there is no one to talk to.

I also think that the people in the current NPL leadership must consult clubs and members of the media before making decisions, which end up making them look like fools.

The other thing I would like to say is that the Namibia Premier League must not promote the postponement of the NFA Debmarine Cup.

I saw the letter addressed to all 16 clubs with this information and I was really shocked that the NPL is plotting a Debmarine cup boycott.

I seriously think that it will be a wrong move, which can cost us a sponsorship from the diamond company.

People have been so desperate to play the game and now when something is available, others are trying to get it postponed.

I think my friend Jefta Gaoab was partly right when he said that the NPL interim committee is just trying to make decisions which can benefit them directly.

The truth is that some of the interim committee leaders have shares in clubs and are afraid to foot the bill for the tournament.

I would understand if they had a better solution and not take us 15 steps back into the football doldrums.

What if the Debmarine officials decide to withdraw because the NPL is using its influence to force the postponement of the competition?

I guess the answer will be that more people will leave the NPL office, which I think needs to sort out its issues soon and very soon too.

The personal grudges, which we all know exist between some of our leaders have to stop.

It is time that the Namibia Premier League and the Namibia Football Association come to the table and smoke a peace pipe.

It is very important that our leaders show the world and corporates that they are organised.

It is very unhealthy that the image of football in the country is tainted by gossip and tribal issues.

Some might say it is too soon to see change in the relationship between the NFA and NPL.

However, I will say that it is never too late or early for a change that can benefit the people.

The lives of many football players depend on the decisions that the leaders will make in the future.

I always feel that being polite and humble will create a better football nation and that is what we should all strive for.

Now is the time to throw away the football politics and the tribal issues.

Stop hiding information from the media, because we know that you come to us when you are in need of good publicity.

We have to make this world an easier place and cut the “bossy” and the “childish manners” we often see among our football leaders.

Let us save our football please – for the love of the game.
