Springboks beat England

England’s nightmare continues in South Africa, with the home side now having completed the series victory.

NAMPA/ANA - South African captain Siya Kolisi and 'Man of the Match' Duane Vermeulen heaped praise on their teammates after seeing off England 23-12 in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

Flank Kolisi has made no effort to hide the fact that he regularly calls upon No 8 Vermeulen for input and guidance, but it was the collective team effort on the field that ultimately ensured South Africa's Test series win over England, moving them up to third in the world rankings as a result.

"It was really tough," said Kolisi pitch-side after another energy-sapping encounter against touring England.

"We knew what we had to do and the coach told us what we were running into today."

For the second week in a row, Kolisi's side shut England out in the second half to complete the series triumph.

The Springbok captain, however, couldn't quite put his finger on the reason for their slow start, which saw them trail 12-0 early on.

"I don't know the reason [for the slow start]. The coach always tells us that all he wants is intensity," said Kolisi.

"You can't control everything but we can control our own intensity. The most important thing is the character of the boys; that we keep on fighting back. I have Duane, he's a great leader and he backs me all the way which is a good thing."

Vermeulen was exhausted afterwards by the effort but pleased with the display of the Springboks.

"I'm very happy with that performance. The boys really dug deep in the last part of the game and to finish on a high like that is an excellent achievement."

The Springboks now move to Cape Town, as they look to complete the whitewash and heap the pressure on England and their coach Eddie Jones.
