Sparta III rugby club claimed bragging rights in the Namibia Rugby Union (NRU) First League after beating FNB Unam III 31-25 in a pulsating match Saturday afternoon at the Hage Geingob Rugby Stadium.
The team from Walvis Bay already signalled their intentions of hunting for glory following their early lead in the game.
Unam, however, grew stronger as the match went on, with the university side converting a number of penalty kicks.
“It has been all about hard work and commitment by the players and I am so happy that the team won this league.
“We are proud of how far we have come as a team, given the challenges we have had.
“I would like to thank the players and my fellow coaching staff for a job well done,” the Sparta coach told Sport Wrap.
Disappointed
The scores were level at 19-19 towards the end of the match and it took extra time to separate the determined teams, egged on by an energetic crowd.
“Yes, we are disappointed with the result today because we wanted to win.
“It was, however, not our day and we can just be proud that we gave it our best on the day and throughout the season,” Unam player Metarere Ngeenguno said
