Scandal after scandal
This year, seems to be the year for exposure of corruption, kudos to the powers that be. All of us ordinary hardworking mortals are indeed thankful for that, but sadly, that is all we can say at this point, that we are thankful that the corruption has been exposed although the investigations are not complete. The dubious land schemes of the Social Security Commission (SSC), is only the latest in a whole string of corrupt practices exposed. Then there's the case of the N$600 million that disappeared from the GIPF. Could the public servants please have their money back now, it's been a very long time. Just return the money and we will call it quits, ok? What is worrisome though, is that the GIPF has been removed from the supervision of the Public Service Commission with the last constitutional amendment (yes, that one – the third one...), so now we have to be careful that it doesn't become open season for GIPF money? Then, along came the PSEMAS scandals, with rumours of doctors and service providers having claimed and abused the fund shamelessly – good enough that “someone, somewhere” decided that it is enough time to investigate the problems. BUT – following the PSEMAS investigations, could we now have a list of fraudulent doctors/service providers, named, shamed and published so that the members and the public know who these greedy people are? And then, last but not least, with rolling corruption of note – we have the SME Bank scandal, with the Zimbabwean connection, and the dubious Zimbabwean who, in spite of the fact that he is (or was) a guest in our country, preferred to assist his fellow countrymen and –women when it came to loans, with our money and in our country! This is the biggest and most shameful scandal. Fortunately, the board of the SME bank has been suspended with good reason and the SME bank has been placed under the curatorship of Bank of Namibia. Could we now please follow ALL the money trails and get our money back? The money of the Namibian people!
