RDP promises to act
The RDP has undertaken to immediately sort out the chaos surrounding the payment of a councillor who resigned from the party.
Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) secretary-general Mike Kavekotora has promised the party will send a letter to Helao Nafidi town council by today, regarding the resignation of its former councillor, Vilho Shimuoshili.
Shimuoshili resigned on 5 August, because he could no longer stand the infighting within the party.
He has, however, still been receiving his salary, because the town council was not informed of his resignation by the party.
When contacted for comment yesterday, Shimuoshili said he has since last week, when Namibian Sun first reported on the ongoing shenanigans, received his monthly allowance from the town council, which he says he is not happy about.
He said he is prepared to refund the council's money, as he does not appreciate being paid after his resignation, as he is no longer formally contributing to the council's affairs.
“The issue is that they (the RDP) do not have a list as to who should replace me, and furthermore the people I know who could replace me also resigned.
“They are now embarrassed by the fact that they do not have a replacement and that's why they can't inform the council about my resignation,” Shimuoshili claimed.
Shimuoshili and several other senior leaders resigned from the party in short succession, after former RDP president Jeremia Nambinga threw in the towel due to ongoing divisions and feuding.
Kavekotora promised earlier this week Shimuoshili's situation would be rectified with a letter to the council, which would be sent by today for the latest.
Helao Nafidi CEO Inge Ipinge said yesterday the letter had not yet reached his office.
Attempts to get further comment from Kavekotora proved futile.
