The second eldest of four children, Ruchan Goagoseb attended Herman Gmeiner Primary School and completed his secondary education at Dawid Bezuidenhout High School.

“High school was quite average for me as a teenager. My interests were cars and soccer but cars were an expensive hobby and my family didn’t exactly come from money,” Goagoseb says.

After losing his father on 7 December 2005, he needed to support his family financially and with the help of his sister, he got a job opportunity at an independent automotive repairs shop named Supa Tech Auto Repairs.

Goagoseb started off as junior administrative clerk and the owner, Basil Bezuidenhout, gave him this opportunity without any prior work experience.

The shop specialised in servicing and repairing BMWs and that is where Goagoseb developed a love of the BMW brand.

His current job title is BMW parts manager for Pupkewitz BMW.

His duties consist of ensuring parts availability through process management and accurate stock control to achieve profitability, making sure that the dealership’s after-sales objectives are achieved through a business-minded approach and effective problem solving, plus mentoring and leading all staff within the department.

Before making the decision to work for the Pupkewitz Motor Division family, one of the aspects that influenced his decision was company culture and opportunities for growth.

“I need to know the company culture because this determines the working environment and how the company treats their employees. Advancement opportunity for growth in the workplace is very important for career progression,” he says.

Becoming a father has made Goagoseb a better person; success to him means setting himself goals and targets on a day-to-day basis, as well as rewarding himself for every small success.

One of his future plans is to make a success of the BMW parts department until he is the future dealer principal of BMW.

“My advice to young people out there is, life is what you make of it, if you’re walking down the right path and you’re willing to keep walking, eventually you’ll progress because success usually comes to those who are too busy to be looking for it,” he says.
