Psemas tender up for grabs
The Central Procurement Board of Namibia is nearly done vetting the tender for the Public Service Employees Medical Aid Scheme (Psemas).
The scheme has been administrated by Methealth Namibia for close to 18 years, but its contract comes up for review at the end of March.
Procurement board chairperson Patrick Swartz said the work to evaluate the tender for the 200 000-member medical aid was coming along swiftly.
“We will review the bidding documents and make a submission to the board. The board must approve the document. We should be out in a month's time,” said Swartz.
At this stage, the Psemas contract will then go on tender.
Procurement board spokesperson Johanna Kambala indicated earlier to Namibian Sun that the finance ministry, under which Psemas falls, had only submitted standard bidding documents last August.
“The individual procurement plan (IPP) of the ministry of finance (Psemas) was submitted to the CPBN for approval on 8 May 2019, upon which the ministry was informed to resubmit the IPP due to shortcomings detected in the submission,” Kambala said.
“The ministry resubmitted the IPP on 23 August 2019 and the board approved it on 5 September 2019, which concludes the IPP approval process,” she added.
The medical aid scheme falls under the budget of the finance ministry, with N$2.8 billion allocated for the 2019/20 fiscal year.
The International Monetary Fund in December 2018 noted that the fund had received approximately N$7 billion from the government since 2016.
