“In 2012 I returned to Mediclinic as a senior registered nurse. I was promoted in 2013 to unit manager of the maternity unit and in 2016 got a nursing manager position at Paramount,” she says.
The Job
Her work as a nursing manager entails quality control and she is responsible for the safety of the patient and the staff. She is also responsible for staff wellbeing as well as their performances.
Some of her achievements include get appointed as a nursing manager.
A day in the office
“A typical day includes overseeing patient hand over from night staff, quality rounds, which includes looking at their files, the environment and attending to their complaints. I also attend clinical meetings and work on medical aid updates. Other administrative duties include dealing with staff and patient issues of the day,” she says.
Apollus is always looking for ways to improve the service to the patient and find ways to create a better working environment for staff. She loves working with people and says she loves to see a patient happy and well taken care of as well as seeing progress in their rehabilitation programs. All her energy is poured into seeing the desired result and she takes pride in being known as the ‘friendly nurse’.
Advice
“Nursing is hard work but it is also very rewarding, not just financially but also emotionally and socially. The sky is the limit for nursing as a career. You can become whatever you want to be. It all depends on your attitude and your willingness to continue studying,” she further adds.
Her future aspirations are to make sure that the nursing services at Paramount continue improving and being the best it can be.
