Our voices will be heard

Karibib Private School learners took the initiative to stand up against violence by taking the problem to the streets of the town on Friday, 16 October. Marching with a fiery passion, trying to get their point across.
Wearing all black in honour of not only Shannon Wasserfall but other victims of violence, the learners took a petition to the police station, hoping for it not to fall upon deaf ears. Hollering in the streets at the top of their lungs, calling for attention of the nearby citizens. Getting support by supporting and woke citizens.
'Femicide is the real pandemic' learners chanted loudly as they passed. 'A dress is not a yes!’, ‘real men don't rape!’, ‘no justice, no peace!'
Asking the police to open a second station near the location in order to feel more protected by the police. It is their duty to protect and serve their citizens.
Until voices were hoarse, the protest went on. Only when they felt completely drained had the feeling of accomplishment hit them. This one protest will not be able to change much. However, it takes one step to trigger a whole society to change.
Whether it will be in 10 days, 10 weeks, 10 months or 10 years. It will cause a snowball effect that is going to be bigger and more important.
