The Ongwediva town council has terminated a N$6.3 million contract with Neu Olulya Trading because of non-performance.
The contractor had been awarded a tender to tar Church Street, which is approximately 1.6 kilometres long.
Council spokesperson Jackson Muma said the contract was awarded in November 2020 and the project was supposed to have been completed in eight months.
“Until April 2021, no significant progress has been made despite numerous communications addressed to the contractor. The contractor has also failed on several occasions to attend site meetings which are crucial to track progress,” he said.
Muma told Namibian Sun that the council would follow the Procurement Act in deciding whether to take legal action against Neu Olulya Trading. A new tender for the project will be advertised soon.
Attempts to get comment from the company failed, as the owner's cellphone number has been disconnected.
