Okahandja awaits Charity Run
The first-ever Okahandja Charity Run is scheduled to take place on 1 July to raise funds for children with cerebral palsy.
The Okahandja Shopping Centre is collaborating with the Okahandja Running Club to host the charity run themed 'Run for Cerebral Palsy'. Cerebral palsy is a neurological disorder which affects body movement and muscle coordination and currently six children are living with cerebral palsy in Okahandja.
Participants can choose to compete in the 21- or five-kilometre fun run.
The participants will be divided into various groups for both men and women: Veterans (40 plus years), elite (18-39 years) and juniors (14 -17 years).
There will be prize monies for the overall winners plus gold, silver and bronze medals in all categories.
The breakdown of these monies is yet to be determined as more sponsors are expected to come on board.
The official start will be at the Okahandja Shopping Centre.
Proceeds from the charity run will be channelled towards the Cerebral Palsy Day Care Centre, a non-profit organisation in Okahandja assisting in the daily necessities of the children, such as physiotherapy and sanitary pads and other general medication needs.
The organisers are looking at making this an annual event.
The registration fees are N$150 for the 21-kilometre run and N$30 for the five-kilometre fun run.
