Namibia's ambassador to Brazil, Samuel Nuuyoma, recently promoted his motherland during a television interview in the South American country. However, his statements caused many a shake of the head. Nuuyoma was speaking in an interview on the Brazilian programme 'Por Brasilia' on 3 October. Not only did he speak of the relations between the two countries during the segment 'World in Focus', but he also got the opportunity to market Namibia as a tourism destination.
“Why is Namibia one of the best tourist destinations in the world?” journalist Fabiana Ceyhan asked.
Nuuyoma replied that Namibia is known for “its nature and its wildlife” where tourists get the chance to “refuel their minds”. “Once you are in Namibia, you will find natural air conditioning. It's the only country that has natural air conditioning,” he said. “You can climb mountains or dunes at the same time. When you have reached the summit of the dune, you can roll down.” The ambassador also described the Spitzkoppe as a “very good spot” where the sunset offers visitors the “experience of their life”. When you sit there and the sun goes down, you wonder and wonder whether the sun disappears into the sea or under the earth. At night, you can see glittering stars that will take away your stress – that is the why Namibia is the best tourist destination in the world,” he said.

When the journalist asked about safari trips, Nuuyoma replied: “The Etosha Pan is a very important park. Sometimes you don't know whether the animals can talk”. During the interview, he also touted Namibian fish and beer.
“Sometimes we get beer (in Brazil) for our national day. The company that produces beer (referring to Namibia Breweries Limited) then sends us beer,” the ambassador said.
