Players at Tsumeb outfit Chief Santos are still unpaid despite the Namibian Football Players Union (Nafpu) stepping in to try and salvage the situation.
A source close to the club said the owner, Hendrik Dawids, stepped down and has made no contact regarding payment for players. He said even though the players' union stepped in order to try and find an amicable solution, there has been no feedback from their side either.
He further said players were just playing for the love they have for the club and were fighting to win their matches.
Earlier this month allegations of fund mismanagement were made against Dawids. About N$260 000 was distributed to each of the 16 clubs in the premier league for September, October, November and December when matches kicked off. The money was meant to help teams get their operations up and running. However, for close to three months players have not been paid and there is no indication as to when they will be paid.
Tovey //Hoebeb, chief administrator of Namibia Premier League, said it's an internal matter and the NPL cannot intervene. He also said the club was committed to their league fixtures and that there were entrusted leaders at clubs who should report matters.
This is despite numerous attempts by Nafpu to engage club chairperson Patrick Kauta.
The NPL pays money into the club accounts and not into individual accounts. However, there are no structures in place to ensure that funds are managed to the advantage of the club players.
Players have contracts with the club and are paid according to the categories in which they fall. These salaries range from N$2 500 to N$5 000 a month.
