Nine students benefit from MTC bursaries
MTC has awarded full study bursaries to nine students - eight at the Polytechnic of Namibia and one at Unam.
MTC spokesperson John Ekongo said the bursaries would cover all the students’ needs - accommodation, meals, textbooks, tuition fees and pocket money.
The bursary recipients are third- and fourth-year students in electronic engineering, telecommunications, power electronics and public relations.
Former MTC bursary holder Tapia Ngoya, currently employed by MTC as a software developer, told the students she could focus on her studies without having to worry about money.
She said the students should not only study harder but smarter too.
Ngoya encouraged them to put in extra effort and determination in their studies.
“Do extra research on your own while you are studying,” she said.
MTC’s Information and Technology General Manager, Patrick Mushimba, encouraged the students by saying that they are solely responsible for their own paths in the industry and should study hard.
Mushimba said the MTC bursary programme was started in 2004 mainly with the aim of helping students to do internships at the mobile communications
company.
He said it helped the students to apply their theoretical knowledge in the organisation and gain the much-needed experience to advance in their careers.
The Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Training and Innovation, Becky Ndjoze-Ojo, said the bursary holders should work hard and achieve their goals in order to assist their families.
She said the students should not only focus on their individual careers but help inspire others and be role models.
“You are a failure if you excel alone in the family,” she said.
