NFA forced to turn down Egypt friendly
Namibia's national football team, the Brave Warriors nearly secured a high profile international friendly match with African powerhouse, Egypt only for a change of date to scupper plans to play the game.
The Namibia Football Association's (NFA) secretary-general Barry Rukoro yesterday told Namibian Sun that the two countries had essentially agreed to play the match next week.
“We agreed to play them on October 9 (next week Wednesday) but they wrote again asking to rather play on the 4th, which is just two days away. Clearly that would not even allow us to have our professionals,” he said. “So we had no choice but to turn it down, which is very unfortunate.”
But Rukoro remained confident that the NFA will secure a game for the Brave Warriors during the next dates available for international friendlies in November.
“We want to play on both the 15th and 19th of November, which are international dates for friendlies. In fact, I can you tell now there is a good one [international friendly] coming,” he said, before adding that “everything is virtually agreed but we still have to talk to some stakeholders because they want to come here”.
Speculation suggests this particular game is set to be against one of Africa's top teams since national team coach Ricardo Mannetti has gone on record as saying that he wants to play teams that are stronger than the Brave Warriors.
