Ndokosho wins IBF Africa belt

Namibian featherweight boxer Gotllieb ‘The Bite’ Ndokosho is the new International Boxing Federation (IBF) Africa Persian Gulf champion after beating his Tanzanian opponent on points in the early hours of yesterday morning. Ndokosho beat Francis Miyeyusho for the vacant title after 12 rounds of boxing, with all three judges scoring the fight in his favour. The scorecards read 114-113; 115-110; 114-111. On Sunday morning, Ndokosho floored his opponent as early as the first minute of the first round. Miyeyusho however recovered quickly and also sent his opponent to the canvas in the same round. Ndokosho beat the referee's count to continue with the fight. As the fight continued, the Tanzanian boxer gained momentum and took control of the fight, but Ndokosho regained the upper hand in the sixth round with his strong body punches. He however failed to knock his opponent down again. Spectators were on their feet for the remaining four rounds of boxing as the two boxers exchanged vicious blows on each other, and after 12 rounds of boxing the judges declared Ndokosho the winner on a unanimous decision. Speaking to the media after the fight, Ndokosho said he was looking forward to the fight since he lost his IBF title earlier this year and was happy to be crowned champion again. The Swakopmund-based Ndokosho lost his IBF International Featherweight title to Oscar Chauke of South Africa in March this year. In the undercard fights on the night, Immanuel Joseph beat Josua Ndemunonga on points in their four-round flyweight bout. In another flyweight bout, John Mukwendje beat Samuel Nangolo in a technical knockout (TKO) in the first minute of the fourth round after the doctor declared him unfit to continue due to a cut on his left eye. Jason Mushale beat Simeon Kalola on points in a four-round welterweight fight. The junior welterweight bout between David Shinuna and Amos ‘Heavy Duty’ Enkala saw Shinuna winning with a TKO in the fourth round. Jonas Matheus beat Johannes Nicodemus on points in their junior featherweight bout, while Limbani Masamba from Malawi beat Alfeus ‘The Viper’ Shilongo with a knockout in round three of their junior middleweight category fight. Lukas ‘The Demolisher’ Ndafoluma and Felix Mwamaso from Malawi clashed in another rematch of their junior middleweight fight and Ndafoluma once again beat his opponent on points after eight rounds of boxing.
