Namibian cricket teams to compete in South Africa
A capping ceremony was held for eight cricket teams here on Friday before their departure to South Africa for various competitions.
The teams comprising seven boys’ teams ranging from Under-11 to Under-19 and one Under-16 girls’ team are set to tour South Africa from Sunday until 20 December 2015.
Speaking at the capping ceremony, Cricket Namibia Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Donovan Zealand congratulated the players who were selected for the touring teams, saying cricket at grassroots level is doing well in Namibia.
“Creating opportunities for young players is of utmost importance because that is a stepping stone for them to improve and be able to represent the country in the national team in the future,” said Zealand.
The boys' Under-11A and U-13B teams will compete in the Free State School Festival from the December 11-12, while the U-13A and U-13C teams will battle it out in the Boland Regional Festival from December 7-11.
The U-15A team will play in the Cricket South Africa Inter-provincial tour; while U-15B will compete in the Western Province tour from December 11-12.
The U-19 team is set to take part in a Coca Cola cricket event from December 16-20.
The girls’ U-16 team, the first to departure on Saturday morning, are competing in the Benoni Festival from December 6-9.
The teams’ tours are sponsored by Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL), Logistics Suppliers Services and Rental Support Services.
