A team of 20 players from the Namibian national team is off to South Africa today for the 2020 Cosafa Men's Under-20 Championship that starts in Nelson Mandela Bay on Thursday.
The championship is set to light up Nelson Mandela Bay in what will be the latest instalment of the vital regional tournament that has been a breeding ground for so much Southern African talent down the years.
The competition will also act as a zonal qualifier for the 2021 Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations, with the two finalists set to advance to the continental showpiece that is scheduled for Mauritania. Zambia will be eager to retain the title they won last year on home soil, as fans get to see potentially a new batch of young stars from the Southern African region.
Group A
Hosts South Africa will kick off their campaign with a tough clash against old foe Zimbabwe on Thursday which already has the potential to be something of a pool decider.
Group B
Holders Zambia headline this group as they seek to retain the title, which they won on home soil last year, and open their campaign against Namibia on Friday.
Group C
This is a three-team pool where Angola will view themselves as favourites as they open against Eswatini on Friday. Botswana are the other side in the pool and they play their first game against Angola on Sunday, becoming the last team to enter the competition. They will then tackle Eswatini in their final game on 8 December.
The list of players: Jovane Narib, Promise Gurirab, Tuhafeni David, Pitsi Ameb, Ruhaka Ngatangwa, Immanuel Hamunyela, Giovani Kaninab, Romin Berndt, Romeo Amon, Ngazikue Kandetu, Xavier McClune, Edmar Kamatuka, Baggio Nashuxua, Ro-giano Goagoseb, Penouua Kandjii, Prins Tjiueza, Denzil Narib, Steven Damaseb, Juninho Jantze and Tjipenandjamba Karuuombe.
