Nafpu pledges N$10 000 for players' choice

Namibia Football Players Union (Nafpu) has pledged N$10 000 to the player who wins the players' player of the season award at the MTC Namibia Premier League (NPL) Awards.

The awards will be held at the Safari Hotel tomorrow.

“The Namibia Football Players Union is hereby happy to announce that we will reward the players' player of the season at the NPL Sports Awards 2018 with a monetary price of N$10 000.

“This will be a top up to the already standing N$20 000 the player will receive from the league's main sponsors,” the union said in a statement.

African Stars and league top goal scorer Panduleni Nekundi will be competing for the award against Unam's Marcel Papama and Black Africa's Dynamo Fredericks.

The three players are also in the running for the player of the season award.

The players' player of the season nominees were nominated by the captains of the 16 NPL clubs.

Another category which will be hotly contested is the coach of the season award.

This category will see league winning African Stars coach Bobby Samaria challenge top four finishers Marley Ngarizemo (Young African) and Gerhardt Hengari (Mighty Gunners).

The coaches were nominated based on them setting the foundation for their respective teams.

The coaches were nominated by their coaching foes in the premier league. The prize money for the coach of the season award is N$20 000.

Jackson Pavaza, Willem Haitembu and Nehemia Shooveleka were nominated for the referee of the season award.

The three referees were nominated by the country's refereeing body and not by the players or the NPL. This award comes with a cash prize of N$10 000.

The top goal scorer of the season award is going to Nekundi, who bagged 15 goals during the 2017/18 season.
