The Namibia Bus and Taxi Association (Nabta) says everything is still on course for it to hold its congress in June next year.
The announcement was made by its acting president Jeffrey Platt.
According to Platt, Nabta’s National Executive Committee said everything was on course to host the congress in June.
“Nabta would also like to share with the public that, as time goes on, the National Executive Committee has reconfirmed that the current executive shall continue with its national duties, while at the same time putting plans into actions to hold the pending congress next year around June 2022,” said Platt.
This was sufficient time given to Nabta to ensure its constitution is fully implemented.
“A lot of logistics needs to be put in place and the current national leadership is busy making sure that the constitution is revised and properly adjusted in order to be able to speak to the current situation and to be able to meet the members and public demand,” said Platt.
According to him, all 14 regional structures are to be fully functional and members will be well informed so that they can freely participate in the process.
“The new Stakeholders Advisory Committee is established to assist and guide Nabta to effectively and efficiently carry out its objectives,” said Platt.
Nabta members were further instructed to adhere to the regulations pertaining to speeding.
“Nabta is appealing to all public transport operators and other road users to please adhere to the rules of the road and to limit their speed to 100 km/h only in terms of Public Transport, and 120 km/h for private vehicles. No drinking and driving, and buses must have two drivers to help each other to avoid fatigue and save lives,” said Platt.
