Mushimba dies in Cape Town
Business mogul Aaron Mushimba has died.
He was 67. Mushimba died in Cape Town, South Africa, where he had gone for back surgery three weeks ago. Mushimba’s daughter, Ujama, told Namibian Sun yesterday that there were complications after the surgery and her father passed away yesterday morning at the Vincent Pallotti hospital.
Ujama said funeral arrangements will be made when her mother is back in Windhoek. “He died with my mom beside him,†she remarked. Mushimba leaves behind four children and three grandchildren. Mushimba is the brother of Founding President Sam Nujoma’s wife, Kovambo. Mushimba had been involved in the liberation struggle from the early 1960s. Since independence Mushimba played a prominent role in a plethora of business initiatives, ranging from fishing to banking and
construction.
The government granted Mushimba’s mining company, PE Minerals, the mineral rights for the Rosh Pinah Zinc mine in 1995.
Following three years of uncertainty over the future of the mine, PE minerals signed a partnership deal with the mine owners, Iscor, at the end of
1998. Mushimba was also the chairman and a director at Namibia Asset Management
Ltd.
