An elderly woman allegedly shot and killed her husband before turning the rifle on herself at Ruhurumwe village in Kavango West on Tuesday morning. A suicide note was found at the scene.
The victims have been identified as Alida Magdalena Venter (67) and Richard John Venter (71).
Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi says investigations into the matter continue.
The couple's daughter, who lives at Rundu, discovered the bodies on Tuesday. She had driven to the village after she was unable to make telephonic contact with her parents.
Alarming phone call
According to the police, her mother had called her the previous day and invited her to visit them as soon as possible, saying that she might not see her again.
“It is alleged that the deceased, Alida Magdalena Venter, shot her husband, Richard John Venter, with a .22 rifle and shot herself afterwards,” the police report reads.
“Yesterday morning the daughter allegedly called her parents but the phone went unanswered. She then drove to the village and upon her arrival she came upon the lifeless bodies of her parents in their house.”
The police said a suicide note was found at the scene but they were not at liberty to share it with the public.
Family members were not willing to talk to the press yesterday.
