Medipark takes safe motherhood campaign to Eenhana
Eenhana in the Ohangwena Region will host this year's safe motherhood campaign offered by the Medipark private hospital on 2 June.
The campaign educates pregnant women on various issues such as the effects of high-risk pregnancies on the family, danger signs and pregnancy-related complications.
Last year the campaign was hosted at Outapi in the Omusati Region, where over 500 women were encouraged to take care of themselves and their unborn babies in order to avoid preventable complications.
The women are also provided with free antenatal screening.
On Tuesday during a preparatory meeting, Medipark's general manager for administration, Meriam Chobe, briefly talked to Namibian Sun about the upcoming event.
“We are preparing for the safe motherhood campaign which is targeting healthy expectant mothers for them to come and participate. The good thing about Eenhana is that we have really experienced a good tranquillity in terms of the community here,” Chobe said.
First Lady Monica Geingos is the patron of the campaign.
According to the World Health Organisation, every day about 1 500 women and adolescent girls die from complications related to pregnancy and childbirth.
Furthermore it is said that every year ten million women and adolescent girls experience complications during pregnancy, many of which leave them or their children with infections and even disabilities.
